"When a highly shiny object is seen by the sufferer it often may induce a compulsive need to claim it ."
I am most definitely a decorator. It comes naturally to me that when I enter a room, I see all sorts of potential and get ideas for ways it could be perked up. My own home is decorated obsessively and is like a condensed version of my personality. I don't keep anything that I don't absolutely love, so the space has been sort of curated to suit my tastes and fancies, while also being a comfortable and cozy space for my partner and son.
One of my favorite ways to spruce up a space is through art. Be it maps, graphic prints, unique fabrics hung in embroidery hoops, posters, illustrations... it can add a lot of pizazz to a room. Some of my decorative art was bought locally, some was thrifted, some was made by me, but the vast majority of it has been purchased directly from the artists online.

I absolutely love calendars and would seriously have one in every room if I could afford it! For both 2011 and 2012 I have bought an illustrated calendar from the etsy shop, Sadly Harmless (check her work out, it is truly lovely). On December 30th I decided to take the old one down and put the new one up. It seemed like such a shame to just recycle it or put it away in the cupboard, so I cut out my ten favorite illustrations and hung them up on my 5-panel doors! I put half of them on the door to the laundry room (which comes off the living room)...

And the other half of them on the door to Silas' bathroom (also the guest bathroom)! ♥ They are a perfect addition and now I get to enjoy them indefinitely. Basically, I paid $15 or so on something practical and pretty, used it for an entire year, and now get to see it again and again.
